-Sasha Aaron-

For singer-songwriter Sasha Aaron, the struggle to find herself and her calling ended the first time she picked up her father’s guitar.

That was it. I started teaching myself by listening to country and classic rock albums. Eventually I started taking lessons, singing and, before I knew it, I was writing songs.” - [Source: sashaaaron.com]

Sasha Aaron is a Miami native who now calls Nashville home. Musically influenced by Linda Ronstadt, The Eagles, Sheryl Crow, and Trisha Yearwood – Sasha's sound is the result of a perfect balance of California rock and the honest sensibilities of country music. The decision to move to Music City immediately proved positive as Sasha quickly gained the respect of top musicians and songwriters, co-writing with hit songwriters Steve Dean, Frank Myers and Rob Crosby, among others.

Her talent landed her a first place win in the 2014 Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival in the Songwriting Competition with her song “Throwback Radio” (co-written with veteran writer Bill DiLuigi). That same year, she headlined her first solo show at Nashville’s famed Bluebird Cafe. In 2015 Sasha had the honor of being a part of Clint Black’s “Competing for a Cause” benefiting RettSyndrome.org. As a final four contestant, she had the opportunity to sing with the country music superstar on national TV and perform her original song “Red Roses and White Whiskey”. Follow the link to view the spectacular performance.

Most recently Sasha played Rock Boat XVII alongside Sister Hazel, Better Than Ezra and Matt Nathanson. In all, her performing and songwriting skills have provided her the opportunity to open for several major acts and her songs have been featured on several MTV and CW network shows.

Sasha demonstrates the balance of California rock and the honest sensibilities of country music, mentioned above, along with her song writing talents and strong vocals on her single “Intervention” released in late 2016. “Intervention” is a single from her latest album, Look Good Gone, which is Sasha’s first full-length album with Grammy-nominated producer, Kent Wells (Dolly Parton). Look Good Gone was released in March of this year. Sasha’s new material is honest in content and exceptional in artistry. Here is what Sasha had to say about the album.

The music on this project is the best I’ve written to-date, thanks to my growth as an artist and writer. It's a reflection of how living in Nashville has shaped me - for better or for worse.” – [Source: sashaaaron.com]

Sasha draws inspiration from her life and the lives of others, her primary motivation in everything she does remains, helping others.

Country music is all about stories, and I love being a storyteller. My hope is always that, through those stories, someone will hear and say, ‘someone else out there gets me’.” - [Source: sashaaaron.com]

Here is what Sasha had to say about this incredible cover for her single “Intervention.”

One thing that has been important to me this time around is being true to who I am, so I'm embracing my geekiness and am commissioning some of my favorite comic book artists to create the art for the singles off the new album. This beautiful cover is done by Gabriel "gabo" Bautista Jr. You can find out more about him and see his amazing work by clicking HERE!” – [Source: sashaaaron.com]

Below are the links to connect you with Sasha Aaron on the internet and social media sites.

Sasha when not in studio or on the road works within the community She spends time volunteering for the local charity Musicians On Call, which delivers the healing power of music through on-site performances for those undergoing medical treatment.

When I asked Sasha what she did in her down time, outside of the music and charity work she replied.

In my downtime, which honestly isn't much these days I'm either reading, catching up on nerdy TV or playing World of Warcraft. I've been playing since college. I've tried taking breaks from the game, but I always go back to it. It's my favorite thing to do to relax.”

Sasha also like comics, however what she reads depends on her mood. The last new series that she picked up, Animosity by Aftershock she fell in love with. With her busy schedule she has been keeping up, as best as she can with Saga, Birthright and The Wicked and The Divine (all Image comics). Her favorite series to reread are Hawkeye (Matt Fraction's and David Aja's run) and Superior Foes of Spider-Man. Sadly Sasha doesn’t get to go to a lot of Comicons. The few that she has got to attend were for work but some were for fun. She finished the conversation about the Comicons with this statement.

I have so many that I'm looking forward to going to one day! NYCC is on my list of hopefuls this year. I love getting dressed up to go, it's one of my favorite parts. I've previously dressed up as Phoenix, Batgirl and Baroness (from G.I. Joe).”

[Bloggers note: If you don’t know who Baroness from G.I. Joe is, google a picture of her. Look at it and compare that pic to the one above and you will see Sasha nails it, right down to the glasses.]

Sasha is both a dog and cat person but at this time has only cats. Their names are Ivy, Gracie, Misfit, and Arthas. Before I could ask why so many cats, she explained. Sasha’s answer shows the heart of someone that cares about the animals of this world as well as people.

I know 4 sounds like a lot, but previously working at animal hospitals it sometimes just happens!”

Sasha enjoys Nashville because there is something new popping up every day. She tells me that checking out all the new restaurants is probably her favorite thing to do and her favorite food is Cuban. She stated that sadly there is lack of Cuban food in Nashville for the most part. Her favorite place to eat/drink is {Pub}licity. Then she proceeds to inform me.

I'm a West Nashvillian, we do have good food over here too!”

This proves Sasha not only has a voice of an angel, she also has super powers that allows her to hone in on people. Somehow Sasha knew I lived in prestigious East Nashville.

To wrap the interview up, before she figured out more about me, I ask Sasha what her favorite venue in Nashville was to play.

My favorite venue that I've played here in Nashville is probably City Winery, but Bluebird Cafe will always be home.”

Breaking News: Robert Sebastian is a busy man. His new single, “Dysnomia” is scheduled for release any week now. Below is what Robert told me about “Dysnomia”.

The single “Dysnomia” while channeling a little Brian Eno is still a modern rock song. It's very introspective. A little stellar and very human!” – Robert Sebastian

Along with the new single, Robert will also be releasing a video documenting the recording session of “Dysnomia” for SE Electronics.

Robert has also began a podcast, titled Between X & Y. Here is what Robert had to say about this endeavor.

At the age of eleven Robert started teaching himself to play drums, bass, guitar, and keyboard. In 2014 Robert released “Pistol”, a groovy rock song with funk and an infectious horn section. “Pistol” has a five star rating on iTunes. Once you listen to it you will see why. It is a phenomenal song with great lyrics and the instrumentals are fabulous. Here is an excerpt of a review.

When I asked Robert what his favorite sport and team was he replied.

I love baseball and my favorite team is the Boston Red Sox. I was born just north of Boston and live there until I was nine. To this day I still don't feel like a southerner. I did however really get into the Predators playing for the Stanley Cup this year.” – Robert Sebastian

The Art of Letting Go

 The Art of Letting Go

We’ve all seen or at least heard of the TV show Hoarders. Some of us watch, with guilty fascination, our fellow humans trapping themselves inside walls of things. Psychologists have acknowledged hoarding as a mental illness. There’s anxiety that is associated with hoarding in an almost cyclic fashion. Anxiety is both a cause and a product of hoarding. Many of us that haven’t quite jumped the line between being packrats and being hoarders don’t realize that we are suffering from a milder version of a real condition. Not being able to get rid of that dress you’ll never wear again because MAYBE you’ll like it again some day. Or that trinket from that ex. Sometimes it’s the not throwing out some food in your fridge (that will inevitably go bad) because it’s wasteful and you MIGHT eat it. Sometimes it not letting go of that grudge you’ve fallen in love with against the person that has hurt you. We hold on to things far too long far too often.

I’ve come to believe there’s an art to letting go of things, feelings, spaces, and people that are toxic to us. And trust me, this toxicity isn’t only mental. Holding on to things prevents us from regularly clearing space. From dusting our homes, to mold growing in cracks and crevices. Holding on to seasonal things triggers un-wellness in the form of allergies, stress & anxiety, lack of focus, and more.

My suggestion is a spring cleaning of sorts. Open all the doors in your home and all the windows. Put on your favorite music or podcast. Burn some incense. Start with the things that are already out in the open if you tend to be a junkier person. Analyze anything you own that seems worn. Ask yourself why you feel the need to hold on to it. Sit with the emotions the items bring and release them as you release the items you’re holding on to. For me, I never get a deep cleaning like this done in one day. I just go room to room and do it. After this, your home will feel fresher and cleaner and your spirit will feel lighter.

Brett Westgrove - A Rocket Scientest Performing the the Country Music Scene

Brett Westgrove
-A Rocket Scientist Performing in the Country Music Scene-

Brett Westgrove's chase for his dream started long before the spring of 2017 when he moved to Nashville. His passion for music began to show at a young age in the farm country of central Wisconsin. Starting with piano at age two and the guitar at age ten, Brett Westgrove has literally been a musician since he was old enough to walk and talk. Brett stayed involved in everything musical and constantly positioned himself in front of any audience he could find.

When not performing, Brett spent most of his time in the garage. Like his father and two older brothers, he was into restoring cars. Among those were a 1956 Thunderbird, 1968 Mustang, and Model-A Ford. During high school, he spent his winters tearing apart his first car, a 1988 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe, and swapping in a modified engine, transmission, computer/electrical, brake and suspension components from various performance models of Mustangs, from years ranging from 1990-2004. This project resulted in a car that was way too fast for a teenager, yet totally unique.

Once he completed high school, Brett moved to California to work as a lead-engineer and producer for a commercial recording studio and production house by day, and continue to pursue his pop music career by night. It didn't take Brett long to realize that the California music scene was not for him. He decided to take a break from music and attended the University of Colorado at Boulder, where––because he "tends to find the hardest things he can take on"––he studied Aerospace Engineering, and worked as a Command Controller.

After a lifetime of building, designing, writing, and performing, Brett realized it was the ART of designing and building, and less the technical, math-based side of things that he was in love with, and was finally forced to admit to himself that he was indeed an artist, and packed his bags to move to Nashville.

When asked about his goals, Brett described himself as overly obsessive. He also said:
My main goal is to be a performer––a big stage performer. I believe not only music, but musical personalities, have the ability to generate mass amounts of good in this world––we are influencers who impact generations across the board. I love life, I love people, and my main goal in life is to inspire people through my actions and my music. I want to be a positive role model for youth, and a driver of change for the better of all people. Sounds cheesy, I know, but I’m guessing that since you work in music you understand the power it truly has in life.”

Brett is a bit of a fitness and health nut. Although it's been a struggle to find time to keep up lately, he tries to get to the gym every day and eat healthy.
Brett loves photography and videography. He even went out and bought camera gear to shoot cover videos for YouTube, which has allowed him to explore new art formats.
Brett is a huge family guy, and being so far away from his family is hard. He says he calls home daily, sometimes multiple times, but unfortunately only makes it home about once per year for Christmas.

June 10th at Commodore Grille

Check out Brett Westgrove live this week during CMA Fest at The Commodore Grille on June 10th at 6PM! Also, be sure to follow Brett on social media at the links below, and watch for the release of his debut music video coming out the first part of July!
